SOLD OUT

Kaya FM, home of the Afropolitan, and Bassline Live once again celebrate the best in music by bringing you a triple-threat line up on the 29th of September with three of Jozi’s most current and relevant acts in one night of music.

We are proud to be hosting The Muffinz, Bongeziwe Mabandla and Zuko Collective in a one-night-only event at the Lyric Theatre, Gold Reef City.

All three acts are stand-alone crowd pleasers but collectively, the acts promise to bring a must-see night of young, fresh talent – consisting of three acts that individually have all been rated as some of the most important and relevant musical acts in the past 5 years in SA.

Zuko Collective – whether as a solo artist, just known as Zuko, or combined with her 9-piece ensemble of musicians, is an act that’s been receiving great success in and around Africa over the past few years. With Xhosa-based mantras and lyrics, Zuko’s imaginative Afro-jazz has been described as ‘conversational’ as she uses her colourful upbringing for inspiration. Having just completed a tour with Hugh Masekela as well as a host of other great shows this year and last, Zuko Collective is a must-see South African act that’s making waves in all the right places right now.

When Bongeziwe Mabandla surfaced with his debut album in 2012 he was instantly hailed as the new face of Afro-folk, effortlessly able to entwine Xhosa lyrics with traditional music and folk stylings to create something uniquely captivating. In the past 5 years he has toured Australia, Asia and Canada and appeared at several international festivals. His debut album saw him nominated for two SAMA awards and instantly elevated him with audiences and his peers.
With a unique approach to songwriting that’s added elements of spirituality and forward-looking creativity to his musical mix, he has recently signed a record deal with Universal Music which has seen him release his much-anticipated second album. He has been cited as being one of the most gifted and purposeful artists working in South Africa today and is an absolute delight to see perform live on stage.

The Muffinz, the guitar inclined, ‘liberated Afro Retro’ band with an ‘eclectic Soul tip’ have remained top of their game for the past few years since their formation. Going from the busking streets of Melville in JHB to being one of the most awarded and respected acts from SA, the 5-piece band sets the stage alight with every performance. After receiving standing ovations and performing to sold-out shows in New York, we are pleased to say The Muffinz still belong firmly on SA soil and will be closing the show for us on the 29th September at the Lyric.

Once again, stylish urban outfitters Brentwood Clothing, new affiliates to the Kaya Fm & Bassline Live series, will be on board, standing behind the rich arts an culture scene in SA through music.

These three progressive acts, not afraid to push the elements of their traditional musical upbringings, have brought fresh sounds to the Kaya FM airwaves over the past few years and the combination of them live on one stage together makes this event a fantastic addition to your diary.
